Turbine Engine Compressor Wash
Most pilots, owners and operators of turbine equipment understand the importance of washing their turbine engines with regularity. And the majority of the larger service facilities are equipped to provide compressor washing as recommended by the manufacturer’s maintenance procedures. This is great, but what happens when you need a compressor wash/rinse and you aren’t headed back to a service center anytime soon?
Our region, along the Gulf Coast, presents a legitimate issue for most turbine operators. Many engine manufacturers recommend regular desalination rinses for aircraft that operate at airports within 150 miles of the coast. For everyone based along the coast, this means a rinse should be performed each time you fly.
It’s easy to disregard the need for regular rinses in our area. These corrosion “zones” have shifted over the past several years and its difficult to know what the lasting effects may be on engines that don’t get rinsed. For many, engine issues haven’t been a problem before, and therefore, this rinse recommendation is not taken seriously.
Improperly washing or rinsing a turbine engine can lead to costly corrosion and increased downtime. The cost to fix a corroded engine could be similar to the dollars needed for an overhaul. In some cases, the corrosion might be located in an area that is only accessible by tearing down the entire engine. Sometimes, an engine manufacturer won’t stand by a quote to repair a corroded engine because of the variability of what else might be found once the engine is taken apart. Furthermore, engine programs, such as Textron’s PowerAdvantage, won’t cover corrosion. Owners and operators are left with very large bills that could have been avoided.
Jet Services has the capability to provide engine washes/rinses on site, at your location. Our mobile services unit can be scheduled to perform this maintenance on a day that doesn’t interfere with your current flying needs. Our team has the correct equipment to service most general aviation and corporate aircraft. We’ve been around turbine equipment for decades and we have the knowledge to get the job done right, the first time!
Our Tronair Compressor washer is suited to service a wide variety of General and Commercial Aviation aircraft and helicopters. The complete list of applications can be found at the bottom of this page.
We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your needs and set up a program for a regular rinses to maximize the health of your turbine engine. It’s normal to have reservations about adding a new maintenance regimen to your aircraft. But choosing to do nothing could be one of the most costly mistakes you make during the ownership of your turbine powered aircraft.
